Kuna ma ma jäin just hätta õekesele selgitamisega, mida me tänase bank holidayga õieti tähistame, siis tegin netis väikest uurimistööd ning otsustasin ka teid UK riigipühadega seoses veidike harida 😉

new year’s day – 1. jaanuar
good friday – enne lihavõttenädalavahetust
easter monday – peale lihavõttenädalavahetust
early may bank holiday – mai esimene esmaspäev
spring bank holiday – mai viimane esmaspäev
summer bank holiday – augusti viimane esmaspäev
christmas day – 25. detsember
boxing day – 26. detsember (kui 25. ja/või 26. detsember langevad nädalavahetusele, on vaba ka järgnev esmaspäev)
Riigipühad jagatakse bank holidaydeks (nimi on tulnud sellest, et seaduse järgi ei või pangad noil päevil avatud olla) ja common law ehk public holidaydeks. Viimasteks on vaid good friday ja christmas day, ülejäänud kuus on bank holidayd. Tegelikult mingit vahet pole, pangad on mõlemal puhul kinni 😉
Niisiis on siin Eestiga võrreldes arvuliselt vähem riigipühi (8/11), aga Eestis on üks neist alati pühapäev (lihavõtted) ning kui teised langevad nädalavahetustele, siis ongi lihtsalt s*tasti. Siin on enamik pühi organiseeritud nii, et rahvas saaks oma pikema nädalavahetuse (USAs on vist sarnane süsteem), mis on iseenesest ju väga armas.
Aga peale jõulude-uusaasta ja lihavõtte siin rohkem nö mõttega pühasid polegi – kuningapere liikmete sünnipäevi (Rootsi näitel), iseseisvuspäevi (Eesti näitel) vms. Lihtsalt kevade ja suvepühad. Mis, jällegi, pole ju üldse halb 😀

sry, rootsi kunni synna on oopis 30 aprill. 6 juuni, mis on rootsi riigipyha, on kunni nimepäev. miks sellest hiljuti riigipyha tehti, ei ole mul kahjuks örna aimugi.
ma leidsin hunniku igasugu tähtpäevi, mis ei ole kyll riiklikud pyhad, aga tähistada võib neid ikka, iga päev on pidupäev 😀
